The NPF held it’s 71st annual convention in Ottawa this year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the United Nations “International Day of Older Persons” which is Oct 1st. To launch the convention NPF organized a celebration and rally on Parliament Hill to bring politicians attention to the issues that seniors are considering during this election. NPF president Herb John opened the rally outlining the UN commitment to seniors and the four issues agreed to by the Seniors Vote collabouration. He and was followed by a French presentation by Lucienne Bahuaud (CURC).

Four subject matter experts spoke about these four issues.

  • Melissa Newitt; is the Interim National Coordinator of the Canadian Health Coalition (CHC). She spoke on Healthcare……
  • JohnAnderson of the Canadian Alliance of United Seniors(CAUS) spoke on Housing.
  • Pat Kerwin (Congress of Union Retirees of Canada) spoke on pension security.
  • Angela Macewen form the Canadian Labour Congress spoke about the growing inequality in Canada.
