WHEREAS 39% of older adults in Canada now are immigrants, and
WHEREAS until the 1970’s, immigrants to Canada were primarily from Europe, and
WHEREAS our largest immigration populations are now arriving from Asia and other third world countries and fit the definition of a “Visible Minority” (VM), and
WHEREAS Canada’s VM population increased by 3% over five years to reach 19% by 2011.
That the NPF consider all the issues faced by older adults in Canada with a “Visible Minority” lens, and that the Board of NPF submit an annual report to its members highlighting the issues and steps taken by NPF with the appropriate authorities to address them.
