RESOLUTIONS / POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

Terms of Reference

1. PURPOSE

  1. To receive, format, and organize the resolutions submitted by member groups and to present the resolutions to the delegates at the annual convention. To review the resolutions with a lens for legality, human rights, and consistency with NPF principles.
  2. The expanded mandate of the Resolutions / Political Action Committee following the NPF annual convention is
    1. to distribute resolutions to appropriate committees or appropriate Executive Board campaigns for actions to be taken and
    2. to raise developing social issues with the Executive Board.

2.1. OBJECTIVES

  1. The committee will organize and update the Resolutions section of the NPF website by entering the new resolutions from the annual convention before the end of the current year.

3. MEMBERSHIP

  1. Four (4) members to be elected or appointed by the Executive Board, one of whom will be the Chairperson.
  2. A member of the Executive Board will be the committee liaison with voice and vote.

4.0. TACTICS AND TOOLS

  1. The political action aspects of the committee’s work will be
    1. to prepare working briefs, not in the purview of any other standing committee, based on the 2017 resolutions for the Executive Board and
    2. to coordinate with the other NPF standing committees to ensure appropriate action on the 2017 resolutions.
  2. The committee will provide a report regarding its progress, actions, and future directions to be presented by the chairperson to the Executive Board quarterly and at the annual convention.
  3. The committee has no mandate to go beyond these limited activities and will present its findings and recommendations to the Executive Board.
