18.4.8 TRAINING MORE GERONTOLOGISTS
WHEREAS Canada has a growing number of seniors, and WHEREAS there are fewer than 200 gerontologists in Canada, and
WHEREAS medical schools do not devote enough classes on gerontology, and
WHEREAS gerontologists are the lowest paid specialists,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the National Pensioners Federation urge the federal and provincial governments to increase funding for gerontologists, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the NPF urge provincial health ministers to increase the fees paid to gerontologists in order to attract more doctors to this specialty.
