NPF Submission: OBSI 2026 External Review Public Consultation

See below a message from the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments.

A snippet of NPF’s written brief submission:
“On behalf of NPF, I regularly attend the OBSI Annual Report meetings and know they are a critical part of
that system. Their independent evaluations have confirmed that OBSI produces fair and consistent
outcomes within its mandate. However, from the perspective of seniors and other vulnerable investors,
that mandate remains too limited to provide meaningful protection.

“As previously announced, CRKhoury (CRK) is currently leading an independent review of OBSI’s banking and securities mandates and our overall operations and practices. CRK have established a Review website at obsireview.crkhoury.com.au which provides some information about the Review and will be updated from time to time as the Review progresses.

The independent review is expected to conclude with the final report published later this year on OBSI’s website.

Consultation with stakeholders is a key component of the review process. To facilitate consultation, the CRK team is requesting that stakeholders provide comments on a range of issues, as outlined in greater detail here. The review team requests that written responses be submitted by April 3, 2026 to review@crkhoury.com. Stakeholders may also choose to provide feedback through a confidential online survey.

In addition, the CRK team will also be conducting direct consultation meetings with consumer advocates, participating firms, industry associations and regulators.”
