Ontario Makes Community Paramedicine for Long-Term Care Program Permanent

The National Pensioners Federation (NPF) is pleased to share important news for Ontario seniors and their families. The Ontario government has announced that its Community Paramedicine for Long-Term Care (CPLTC) program will now be permanent, backed by $89 million in annual funding.
This program provides 24/7 non-emergency medical care in the comfort of home — from diagnostic tests and at-home treatments to remote health monitoring — helping seniors avoid hospital visits and delay or prevent moves into long-term care.
Since launching in 2020, CPLTC has:
- Served more than 81,000 seniors
- Delivered over 310,000 hours of direct care
- Expanded services to include First Nations communities such as Pikangikum and Weenusk
NPF welcomes successful program outcomes from Ontario Health Pilot Projects that support Ageing Canadians at home. Additionally, staffing and care is an essential pillar to providing dignity in health services for our most vulnerable waiting for LTC.
Eligibility
Seniors may qualify if they:
- Are on (or soon to be on) the LTC waitlist
- Have been assessed as eligible for LTC
- Are referred by health professionals, caregivers, community agencies, or self-referred
Why it Matters
Programs like CPLTC bring health care to where people live, easing pressure on hospitals, supporting caregivers, and improving quality of life.
