Protect Federal Health Care Funding: This Is Not A Time For Cuts

As Canada’s premiers meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss tariffs and infrastructure, we must not let health care fall off the agenda.

Across the country, nurses and health care workers continue to face dangerous staffing shortages and overcrowding. Solutions exist: mandated nurse-patient ratios and national health workforce planning.  These, however, require strong federal investment.

This is not the time to cut federal health care funding.

Call on the Prime Minister to maintain and strengthen federal health transfers so that everyone in Canada can access the care they need, when they need it. Sign an Open Letter here: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/no-cuts-to-federal-health-care-funding

See below a message from Linda Silas, President of Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions.  An updated campaign has been published by CFNU with an open letter to the Prime Minister.  Monday’s campaign is being updated to ensure you receive a confirmation email upon submitting a letter through CFNU’s portal.

Dear Friend,
Today our country’s premiers are meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss tariffs and nation-building projects. Health care cannot fall off the priority list.

In health care settings across the country, nurses and health care professionals are still working understaffed and overcapacity. We can turn the tide on the health care staffing crisis with concrete evidence-backed solutions from mandated nurse-patient ratios to pan-Canadian health workforce planning for data-backed decision making. But these solutions can only be acted on if there is adequate funding to get the work done.

This is no time to cut federal health care funding.

I am calling on the federal government to ensure health care funding continues to flow to provinces and territories uninterrupted. So that everyone can have access to the care they need when they need it.

Join me. Tell Prime Minister Carney that you don’t support cuts to federal health care spending.

SEND A LETTER TO THE PRIME MINISTER

Thank you for supporting public health care, and the workers who keep it running.

In solidarity,
Linda Silas, CFNU President
