As Canada’s premiers gather in Huntsville this week, nurse union leaders are there with a clear message: patient safety must come before budget cuts.

Nursing is a safety-critical profession. Staffing decisions need to be guided by patient care, not dollars. Backed by leading international health workforce experts, nurses are pushing for real, data-driven solutions to the care crisis.

Premiers may focus on tariffs and big projects, but we must ensure public health care stays front and centre.

Add your voice. Tell your premier: there’s no health care without nurses.

Dear Friend,

When I meet with our country’s premiers tomorrow, protecting patient safety and our nursing workforce will be at the heart of our conversations.Nurse union leaders from across the country are joining me in Huntsville where the premiers are meeting for the Council of the Federation.

Together, we’re delivering a strong message from Canada’s nurses: there are no shortcuts to patient safety. Nursing is a safety-critical workforce, which means decisions about staffing need to be based on safe patient care, not budget lines. To reinforce this message, we are bringing two renowned international experts on patient safety and safe nurse staffing to present at our policy meeting.

Premiers will hear first-hand about the data science behind the nursing workforce and safe patient care from health workforce experts as we discuss concrete solutions to the crisis in care.

Tariffs and nation-building projects are high on the agenda for premiers at their meetings, and we can’t let them forget how critically important public health care is.

I need your help. Your premier needs to hear from you. Together, we can push every province and territory to act on solutions to create a better public health care system for nurses and their patients.
